WINDELL ROYCE ADAMS, 75, of Sherwood, Ark., passed awayon Friday, July 8, 2011. He was born in Elba, Ark., on Sunday, Jan. 12, 1936, to Wilford Woodruff and Shirley Craft Adams. Windell was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Devon Adams;

and his previous wife, Joyce Adams. Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Freida Adams; one daughter, Mary Beth Rogers (J.P.) of Bryant, Ark.;

and one stepdaughter, VickieArellanes (John), of Jacksonville, Ark.; one sister, Velma Lee Treece (Larry) of Ephrata, Pa.; one brother, Leon W. Adams (Susie), of North Little Rock, Ark.; grandchildren, Lee Ann Stehley, John Adams Rogers and Eric Thomas Rogers; and one great-grandson, John Luke Stehley. Before retiring Windell worked 30 years for the State of Arkansas under Winthrop Rockefeller, Frank White, and received special recognition by President Bill Clinton. Using his artistic talents Windell was a very creative man, and self taught musician. As a young boy, Windell roamed thehills of Searcy County, and now he returns to those hills. He was a southern gentleman who had a kind word for everyone. His joy was not found in material things, but in the love and laughter of his family. He will be missed by all who knew him. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 300 Callaway, Sherwood, Ark.; 501-835-3666. MARY J. BURNS, 69, of Maumelle, passed away July 7, 2011. She wasborn in Glasgow, Scotland, to John and Julia Donnelly. Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her husband of 45 years, Joseph Lee Burns; son, John L. Burns and wife, Lisa ofMaumelle; daughter, Susan York and husband, Greg of Little Rock; son, Michael E. Burns and wife, Sarah of Benton; and grandchildren, Josh Burns, Lyndi Burns, Kyle York, Austin York, Elizabeth Burns and Emily Burns. TERRY CHISM, 69, of North Little Rock passed away Friday, July8, 2011. She was born Aug. 13, 1941, in Beebe, Ark., to the late Raymond and Marvell Gray Smith. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Terry was a loving wife, motherand grandmother. WILLIAM L. "BILL" CONWAY, 73, of North Little Rock passed awayWednesday, July 6, 2011. He was a retired Mail Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service with 34 years of service. Bill was a devoted father and grandfather. What he loved most in life were his children. Hecommitted most of his free time while away from work to his two kids and grandkids. He coached his son in almost every sport and gave extra love and attention to his daughter who graduated from the Arkansas School for the Deaf. Bill volunteered at the deaf school teaching sign language classes for many years. For the last 10 years he has practically raised one of his grandsons, spending most every day helping with him. As a high school student in North Little Rock he lettered in three sports and was a star track athlete. He was an accomplished bluegrass musician and played the mandolin in a bluegrass band for over 20 years performing at bluegrass festivals all over the south. Bill loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. He began snow skiing in the late 1970s and was an active member in the Little Rock ski club where he volunteered as trip coordinator and led a number of groups on ski trips all over the world. He continued his love for travel up until recently when his health began to fail. Bill becameinterested in genealogy and spent years researching the Conway family name, even traveling to Ireland and Wales multiple times to visit the original birthplaces of distance kin. He was a walking history book of knowledge on all matters relating to the Conway’s ancestry. Bill will always be remembered for hislove of life; for family and friends and for his wonderful sense of humor. In his last moments in the hospital he was surrounded by his family and was holding hands of his two adult children as he took his last breath. He will be missed tremendously by all who knew him. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Luke and Melanie Conway, of Maumelle; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Keith Gray, of Sherwood; brother, Jervis Conway of Little Rock; two sisters, Ellie Martin and Nettie Vizzier, both of North Little Rock; four grandchildren, Zack, Pierce, Sydney and Jonathan and a special friend, Lanore Garrison. RICARDO GONZALES, age 61, serving his Lord and his countryin loving pride, passed on July 6, 2011.

Born Aug. 23, 1949, in Demming, N.M., he is survived by his wife, Shirley, of 23 years; step-children, Steve, Randy and Debi; fivegrandchildren and three greatgrandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. His dedication to helping others and sense of humor were evident to all... He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

ELMER KERSHAW, 75, of Sherwood was born Oct. 20, 1935, in Bellville, Ind., to Victor and Edna Kershaw and passed away on July 7, 2011. He is preceded in death by his wife of 31 years Sadie Kershaw and one brother and one sister. Mr. Kershaw was a lover of animals and enjoyed traveling. He served as fire chief for both the Runyan Acers and Gravel Ridge Fire Departments; he was a mason and a member of the North Pulaski County Methodist Church and served his country in the Air Force. He is survived by his daughter, Brenda King, of Sherwood and his son, Allen Kershaw of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two grandchildren, Daniel Jones and his wife, Kelly of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Kayla Jones of Lewisburg, Tenn., as well as extended family and friends. NATALIE BEACH KIRBY of Little Rock passed away Thursday, July7, 2011. She was born Jan. 21, 1924, in Overland, Mo., to the late David Roe Beach and Nina Nicolson Beach. She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Hodgen Kirby Jr.; a daughter, Allison McCarty; three sisters, Helen, Mary Carson, and Ruth; a brother, David; and dear friend, James H. Hamlen. She is survived by her son, Henry Hodgen Kirby III; her daughter, Dale Selakovich and husband, Richard, all of Little Rock; grandchildren, Kirby Natalie DiBerardino and husband, Tim of Denver, Colo., Caitlin and Patrick Selakovich of Little Rock, and Ginger Porter of Dallas, Texas, and son-in-law, Richard McCarty of Tupelo, Miss. She attended Washington University and Little Rock University and was an accomplished artist. Early in her life Natalie was an airline stewardess for Chicago Southern/Delta Airlines. She raised her children after Hodgen’s death while he was attending medical school. Natalie volunteered at the Arkansas Art Center, Florence Crittenden Home and was a long-time member of St.Marks Episcopal Church. Natalie was known for her beauty, gentle nature, love of animals, and her strong faith. Natalie also enjoyed daily walks in the Pulaski Heights area. CLIFFORD W. RICH, 90, of Sherwood, Ark., passed away July 7, 2011. He was born Dec. 11, 1920, in Ravenna, Texas, to John and Alta Rich. He is predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Frances; two brothers: Leonard and Earl; and two sisters: Mamie Gee and Merle Wisely. Mr. Rich entered the U.S. Army in 1938 and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1962. He later retired from Franklin Electric Corporation and Pine Meadows Mobile Home Park in Jacksonville, Ark. CARLISLE - John Robert “Bob” Cochran, 100, of Carlisle, passed away July 9, 2011. Bob was born Nov. 30, 1910, in the Hamilton Community to Frank and Minnie (Tolbert) Cochran. He raised his family and lived in Hamilton for over 95 years. He was a retired carpenter, farmer and a member of the Hamilton Baptist Church. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters; a daughter, Esther Matthews and his beloved wife of 69 years Helen Parnell Cochran. HEBER SPRINGS - Lloyd “Popi” Ernest Abbott quietly and with asense of peace began to turn pale with a tear in the corner of his eye as he took his last breath on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at 8:20 p.m. He was born in Floral, Ark., April 22, 1927. During WorldWar II he served in the U. S. Navy as an electrician's mate. In 1992, he closed his automotive repair shop in Newport, Ark., and retired to Heber Springs. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Dunahay Abbott; three daughters: Lynn Williams of Heber Springs, Vicki Hulett of Crosby, Texas, Ann Boyce of Newport, Ark.; three grandchildren: Karrabi Malin of Grapevine, Texas, Alyson Pressley of Pomona, Calif., Ryan Hulett of Houston, Texas, Madelaine Boyce of Madison, Wis.; six great-grandchildren: Octavia Malin, Isabel Malin, Noah Malin, Payton Pressley, Killian Pressley, and Jonas Hulett. Memorial services for the Honorable Honorary Mayor of Portfest, Lloyd Abbott, will be held at 10 a.m. on July 23, 2011, at the Jacksonport State Park at camp site No. 19 where he has been attending Portfest for 28 years. At a later date, his ashes will be taken to his favorite fishing spot on the White River, at Guion, Ark. Guion was his favorite fishing and camping spot in all of Arkansas for many years. It held many fondmemories because of the beautiful area and mostly because of his close friends. His heart was filled with an abundance of love of people and especially with the love of his family. HIGDEN - Bobby Eugene Bogard, LTC Ret. Army passed awayJuly 8, 2011, after a brave battle with ALS. He was born in Cleburne County, Ark., on Oct. 10, 1932 to Rhoden and Betty Parks Bogard. He graduated from Wilburn High School in 1950 and movedto little Rock to work and go to LRJC now UALR. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and the Army Command and General Staff College. He accomplished many things in his life, but he was most proud of his career as an Army Aviator with the Army Corps of Engineers. In his 21 years as a fixed wing and helicopter pilot he had over 6,000 hours of flight time to his credit. Among his military awards are a Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, two Bronze Stars, 23 Air Medals and three Army Commendation Medals. He also received the highest award given to civilians, from the country of Guatemala, where he lived and worked for four years. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Bogard Burkhart. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Genice Steely Bogard; sons, Gregory, Mark and James Bogard; granddaughters, Alicia Martinez, Lauren Bogard and Hilary Burkhart; threegreat-grandchildren and a brother, Rhoden Clark Bogard. SEARCY - Beloved wife and mother, Sandra Lee Schillinger Thompson, 69, of Searcy, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2011. Sandra was born in Conyngham, Pa., Oct. 31, 1941, to her beloved parents, the late Paul and Emily Schillinger. Sandra was a retired elementary school teacher, inspiring classes for four decades in three states, including 27 years in the Little Rock School District. She was the featured baton twirlerat Ole Miss, performing in three Sugar Bowls and a Cotton Bowl.Sandra was in the “Parade of Beauties” and “Parade of Favorites” at Ole Miss, and was also first runner-up to Miss District of Colombia in 1962. Sandy was also proud to score a“hole-in-one” on the golf course at Hot Springs Village. Sandra recently celebrated 48 years of marriage to Frank M. Thompson of Searcy. She is survived by three sons, Todd A. Thompson, of Brentwood, Tenn., Captain Steven V. Thompson, of Searcy, and Jeffrey P. Thompson, of Reno, Nev. Sandy was especially proud of her six grandchildren, Heather, 13, Zach, 12, Emily, 10, Courtney, 9, Lily, 3, and Eli, 2. SHERIDAN - Norma Louise Lowe Winston, of Sheridan, Ark.was born Aug. 3, 1928, at Grand Rapids, Mich., the daughter of the late John Norman and Mary Faye Coats Lowe. She was a member of First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan, where she attended the Grace Sunday School class for over 50 years. She served in the United States Army’s, Women’s Army Corp. (WAC) from 1951-1953, was retired bookkeeper/ secretary for Winston, Inc., was a member of the Sheridan Extension Homemaker’s Club, and served alongside her husband in the Arkansas Chapter of the American Red Cross disaster aid team. In years past, she enjoyed squaredancing and in recent years, quiltmaking. Her love for travel had taken her to 15 countries and she was proud to have marched in the Dwight Eisenhower Inaugural parade in 1953. When asked what her greatest accomplishment was, she replied “raising my three kids, who I love dearly”.She went on to say, when asked what she would do differently if she had it to do over again, “I’d do everything the same.” Norma was like a child herself at holidays, especially Christmas Eve, when she baked everyone’s favorite pie for them, all from scratch. She was an extraordinary Christian lady, who considered her God-given role as wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, to be her greatest treasure. Mrs. Winston died, Friday, July 8, 2011, at Baptist Medical Center Hospice in Little Rock, surrounded by her family, at the age of 82. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Donald “Don” Winston Sr., who died July 14, 2003, and brothers, John Norman Lowe Jr., Donald Edward Lowe, and Irvin James “Jim” Lowe. Survivors include her sons, Donnie Winston and wife Becky, Scott Winston, M.D. and wife Kelly; daughter, Julie Allen, all of Sheridan; brother, Jack Lowe of Grand Rapids, Mich.; grandchildren, Heather Harvey and husband Jimmy, Bridget Grove and husband Paul, Justin Winston and wife Savannah, Christopher Winston, Gray Allen, Mandy Winston and fiance Richard Alonzo, Jessica Winston, Rhonda Walters, Jackson Winston; seven greatgrandchildren. DUMFRIES, Va. - Houck William Reasoner Jr. of Prince William County, Va., formerly of Little Rock, died at home Wednesday morning, July 6, 2011. He was born Aug. 26, 1933, at Davis Hospital, Pine Bluff, Ark., the only child of Houck William and Helen Anita Baker Reasoner. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Eleanor Marshall Armistead Reasoner and his children Anita Caroline Reasoner Grafton, twins William Baker Reasoner and Houck William Reasoner lll and Martha Amelia Reasoner. He is survived by his sons Armistead Marshall Reasoner and wife Noelle, and Stephen Lawrence Reasoner ll and wife Amy; and beloved grandchildren Laura Katherine Jett Grafton Citti and husband Brian, Sarah Elizabeth Grafton and Jacob Eldridge Reasoner.

His family lived on West Sixth Avenue, Pine Bluff and later moved to South Cherry. Houck was educated at Starke University School, Montgomery, Ala., and the public Schools of Pine Bluff. He graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1951 and was a member of Scrubby Watson’s Band, the National Honor Society, Radio Guild, library staff, Pine Cone staff and served as president of the Hi-Y club. He attended Louisiana State University and graduated from Arkansas State College in 1955 where he was a charter member of Arkansas Gamma Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. In 1985 he was appointed district governor of the fraternity and saw the need to organize a new chapter at the University of Central Arkansas, Conway, which became Arkansas Zeta.Houck served as president of the alumni board when the new chapter house on Donaghey Avenue was built. Houck was awarded the Order of the Golden Heart, which is the fraternity’s highest honor.

He married Eleanor Marshall Armistead of Little Rock, Sept. 12, 1961, in Trinity Cathedral. After working in the Chicago area as a construction managementanalyst, Houck was employed as an administrator for T J Raney & Sons Investments for many years. In 1992 he joined Governor William J. Clinton’s national campaign staff and after Mr. Clinton was elected President, Houck served on the transition staff.

Houck had been president of the Arkansas Chapter of the Amateur Athletic Union, and a member of the Country Club of Little Rock, the Arkansas Association for Children with Learning Disabilities, the Kiwanis Club of Little Rock, Political Animals of Central Arkansas, the Little Rock Bachelors Club, the Cathedral School Board, Easter Seals of Arkansas Development Council, the Board of Governors of the Ada Thompson Memorial Home, and the Quapaw Quarter Associationand the Heritage Seekers Genealogy Club. He delighted (or mystified, as the case may be) his many friends with conversations about fraternity, genealogy, churchmanship, Pine Bluff and Edgehill. He donated a funeral pall, processional cross and two ornate brass floor candlesticks to First United Methodist Church, Little Rock, and served as acolyte master. Also, he donated two narthex windows, sanctus bells, an aspergillumaspersorium set, and a thurible to Trinity Cathedral where he served as Sunday School Superintendent.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 12, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Little Rock, by the Very Rev. Jonathon W. Jensen, the Rev. Canon J. Russell Snapp, the Rev. Canon Paul McLain and Timothy Allen, organist, with interment following at Mount Holly Cemetery. Arrangements by Baker-Post Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Manassas, Va.
