JBU media students win awards

John Brown University Communication students received 11 awards from the Arkansas College Media Association (ACMA) at its annual conference held at Central Baptist College in Conway, Ark.

Senior Amy Perry was named TV Anchor of the Year for her work on EagleBreak, JBU's student-produced TV newscast now in its second season. First place awards went to senior Kelsey Gulliver (feature page layout), senior Jon Skinner (feature writing), and sophomore Elizabeth Jolly (art/illustration). Skinner also won third place in the feature page layout and art/illustration categories.

Senior Sidney Van Wyk took second place in the meeting/speech coverage category. Olivia Morrow, senior, won third place in advertising and senior Caleb Wanzer placed third in the in-depth news category. Honorable mentions went to freshman Carter Henson in the personality profile category and senior Hannah Wright for news-writing.

"I'm delighted and proud of the students' accomplishments this year. It's the first year that EagleBreak students have participated, and what a showing!" said Marquita Smith, communication department head. "Our students spend countless hours creating media products that educate, inform and entertain the campus community. We appreciate the affirmation from ACMA."
