Farmers Market season kicks off on Saturday

Siloam Springs Farmers Market will open for the season at 8 a.m. Saturday in City Park at University and Mount Olive streets.

The market is hosted in the park every Tuesday and Saturday, from April 19 to Oct. 25. It's open those days from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A total of 23 vendors will be at the market opening day, said Meredith Bergstrom, executive director of Main Street Siloam Springs.

On average, about 15 vendors have attended the market. On its busiest day, the market had 26 vendors.

This year, pasture pork and beef and nongenetically modified meats will be available on both Tuesdays and Saturdays. Eggs also will be available both days.

Bergstrom said market staff hope to get cheese, also.

The market will include a new vendor who makes his own candles.

Existing vendors hope to expand items, including having mushrooms.

Three vendors have started strawberry fields. So they hope to have strawberries soon.

Vendors will continue to provide farm produce, baked goods, gluten-free breads, jams and jellies and handmade crafts.

The farmers market accepts SNAP, senior vouches and WIC coupons.

The Saturday market will be the new pickup point for the online market. The online market will continue to take orders at siloamsprings.locallygrown.net.

Bergstrom said the online market allows people to plan meals by ordering items online and picking them up at the market on Saturdays.
