War Eagles sweep SSHS in baseball doubleheader

Rogers Heritage junior left-hander Kacey Murphy struck out 18 Siloam Springs batters and pitched a 1-hitter in a 7-0 War Eagles win against the Panthers on Tuesday in Game 1 of a 7A/6A-West Conference baseball doubleheader at James Butts Baseball Complex.

Heritage (13-4, 6-2) completed the sweep in Game 2 with a 17-1 victory.

Siloam Springs sophomore Dodge Pruitt was the only Panther to notch a base hit off of Murphy (4-1) in Game 1. Junior Keldon Bartlett also reached on a walk for the Panthers (2-14, 1-7).

Murphy also helped his own cause at the plate going 2 for 3 with a run batted in. Colton Wetzler and Logan Easley also added two hits and two RBIs apiece for Heritage.

Chandler Cook (1-4) took the loss for the Panthers in Game 1, allowing three earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. Chance Junkermann, Eli Hawbaker and Pruitt also pitched in relief.

In Game 2, the War Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and then plated 10 runs in the second go up 13-0. The War Eagles scored a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Wetzler (4-1) pitched three scoreless innings to earn the win in the second game and the Heritage offense pounded out 17 hits. He also went 3 for 5 with five RBIs.

Dalton McKaughan and Ty Harris also each went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs in the second game.

Raiff Beever (1-6) took the loss on the mound, while Josh Hunt, Logan Hamilton and Bartlett all pitched in relief.

Cook had a base hit and scored the Panthers' only run. Matthew McSpadden and John Austin Earles also had base hits for Siloam Springs.

Siloam Springs' scheduled home game against Providence Academy on April 17 was canceled.

The Panthers play a conference doubleheader on Thursday at Bentonville.
