Senior Circle celebrates with Big Band Bash

Siloam Springs Regional Hospital's Senior Circle Chapter will be celebrating its fifth anniversary with a Big Band Bash starting at 9 a.m. Thursday at Community Christian Fellowship Church, located at 525 S. Lincoln in Siloam Springs.

"This year we will be celebrating five years of Senior Circle in Siloam Springs," said Aimee Morrell, Senior Circle advisor. "The program kicked off on Sept. 24, 2009, and started with 50 members signing up that day. Now we have more than 430 members from Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas. And you don't have to live in Siloam Springs to be part of the fun, we would like anyone interested to come out and join us."

The event will start with a Health Expo featuring local business and health professionals from Northwest Arkansas and Northeast Oklahoma. In addition to vendors, there will be free cholesterol screening for those who would like to participate. The test is a fasting test, so participants are asked not to eat for at least eight hours before the screening, although they may drink water.

For the big band portion of the event, The JM Band -- formerly The Jack Mitchell Big Band -- will be performing during a complimentary lunch after the health expo. Dancing is encouraged.

"We're really looking forward to having The JM Band again this year," Morrell said. "Our anniversary events are always lots of fun. In the past, we've had national speakers, a carnival and even Branson, Mo., shows right here in Siloam Springs. You never know what kind of surprises to expect with Senior Circle.

"Members and guests are welcome to join us for food, dancing and a little bit of health education," Morrell said. "We really would like to thank our platinum partners for making this event possible: Community Physicians Group, ARORA and, of course, Siloam Springs Regional Hospital. Their support of the event and the program really is appreciated."

There is no cost for Senior Circle members to attend, however, reservations are required. For non-members, cost is $15 and includes a membership to Senior Circle. To reserve a space, call (479) 215-3125 or e-mail to [email protected].

Senior Circle is a program sponsored by Siloam Springs Regional Hospital for people ages 50 and better. The goal is to educate people about health issues they may be facing in addition to offering fun activities for the mind, body and spirit.
