Gold defeats ninth-grade girls

Bentonville Gold turned a three-point halftime lead into a 10-point advantage going into the fourth quarter, and the Lady Tigers hung on Thursday for a 38-29 win against the Siloam Springs ninth-grade team inside Panther Activity Center.

The Lady Tigers led 8-7 after the first quarter and pulled ahead 19-16 at halftime.

After outscoring the Lady Panthers 13-6 in the third period, Gold (6-2) led Siloam Springs 32-22. Siloam Springs outscored Gold 7-6 in the fourth quarter 7-6 to set the final score.

Morgan Vaughn led the Lady Panthers (6-3) with eight points.

Emma Palasak scored a game-high 11 points for Bentonville Gold, while Imani Montgomery had 10 for the Lady Tigers, who never trailed in the second half.

Bentonville Fulbright defeated the Lady Panthers in the eighth-grade game 47-20. McKenzie Blanchard led the Lady Panthers (1-5) with seven points.

Boys

Siloam Springs 53, Bentonville Gold 47 (OT)

Siloam Springs outscored Bentonville Gold 8-2 in overtime as the Panthers defeated the Tigers 53-47 at Bentonville High School.

Spencer Lashley scored 15 points for the Panthers, while Marquan Sorrells had 14.

The Panthers (4-5) led 6-3 after the first quarter and 22-17 at halftime. The Tigers rallied to tie the game at 35 entering the fourth quarter, and both teams scored 10 points in the fourth quarter.

The win was the Panthers' second straight.

"It's encouraging to watch this group making strides towards becoming a strong team," said ninth-grade coach Bill Covington. "We had very positive attitudes throughout the game and showed some resilience when we fell behind in the fourth quarter. The balanced scoring is a testament to growth in the area of working together and understanding the value of our roles on the team."

Spencer Lashley scored 15 points and Marquan Sorrells added 14 for Siloam Springs as the Panthers (4-5) topped Gold on the road in overtime.

Nathan Lyons led Gold (4-3) with 14 points and Tyler Johnson added 13 points.

Bentonville Fulbright won the eighth-grade game 44-23. The eighth grade Panthers are now 3-3.

Up next

The eighth- and ninth-grade teams are off until Dec. 29, when they play in a holiday tournament in Van Buren.
