Seventh-grade football throttles Greenwood

GREENWOOD -- The Siloam Springs seventh-grade football team got its season started on a high note Tuesday with a 48-0 win at Greenwood.

The Panthers (1-0) scored five first-half touchdowns and led 34-0 at intermission before tacking on two more scores in the second half.

"We were excited about the chance to play Greenwood because we know of the tradition and quality of program they have," said seventh-grade head coach Chuck Jones. "We worked hard in offseason and this summer. The boys knew they had a challenge ahead of them."

Siloam Springs rushed for 238 yards on 16 carries and scored six touchdowns on the ground.

Braxton Barr got the scoring started with a 60-yard touchdown run, and Gage Weaver's two-point conversion made it 8-0.

Barr scored again on a 22-yard run and Weaver converted the two-point for a 16-0 lead.

Tanner Broyles ran for touchdowns of 30 and 10 yards and also had a 15-yard touchdown pass to Reed Wilbanks for the final first-half score.

Barr had a 41-yard touchdown run in the second half and finished the game with 142 rushing yards on six carries.

Jackson Norberg had a 14-yard touchdown run to complete the Siloam Springs scoring.

Weaver, Broyles and Norberg combined to rush for 96 yards on 9 carries.

The Siloam Springs defense held Greenwood to a total of minus-20 yards of offense.

"I was extremely pleased with our blocking and how the boys were coming off the ball," Jones said. "The running backs were hitting the holes. For seventh grade and it being our first game, I was pleased overall. I was extremely excited."

Greenwood won the 'B' game 30-0.

Jordan Stewart completed 4 of 5 passes for 35 yards while rushing for 23 yards. Anthony Spears rushed for 33 yards.

The Panthers play at Harrison on Monday.
