The Siloam Springs golf teams have reached the halfway mark of their 2014 season, and there is still a lot to play for, according to coach Michael Robertson.

The Panthers defeated Springdale 155-199 on Monday in a nine-hole varsity boys match at Siloam Springs Country Club, the first match of a three-match week.

"We've got to start putting it together from here on out," Robertson said. "Some guys are starting to separate themselves. We want to see who fills those final three spots."

The Panthers feel pretty good about their top two golfers in senior Brandon Coale and sophomore Cody Beyer, who each shot 39 on Monday against Springdale.

Senior Brendan Lee was the medalist on Monday with a low-round 37, while junior Aaron Jones had a 40 and senior Cody Casebeer shot 41.

"At this point they've been consistent enough to where we know what we're going to get with Brandon and Cody," Robertson said. "We've got to get a little better on the next three spots, whoever that is.

"It's a matter of who's the most consistent at the end."

Robertson said Lee and Casebeer have made strong cases to play in the top five spots. Jones, who has battled a back injury, isn't back to form yet, Robertson said.

"He's battling," Robertson said of Jones. "A lot of things changed in his swing. If we can get him back to where he was before the injury we'll be just fine."

Robertson said sophomore Noah Karp, senior Hunter Tilley and senior Mitchell Baker are also working hard for varsity playing time.

Those three played junior varsity on Monday, with Tilley shooting 39, Karp 41 and Baker 45.

In other junior varsity action, Kyle Comiskey shot 45, Tucker Gambill 48, Josh Hunt 49, Solo Jackson 50, Will Gambill 52 and Jaxon Brown 72.

For Springdale, Jack Jones led with a 43, while Trevor Beadle shot 45, David McDonald 53, Josh Lane 58 and Michael Justis 60.

Lady Panthers

Springdale didn't field a team for the girls match, so Siloam Springs' five golfers played a nine-hole round.

Freshman Brinkley Beever shot a 47 for the top score, while junior Amanda Glass shot 48.

Sophomore Halle Hevener shot 58, Alli Tolliver 59 and Bailey Turner 64.

"Brinkley's gotten off to a good start as a freshman," Robertson said. "Amanda's been a great leader and works hard. She juggles a million things and finds a way to manage them. ... They're all getting better. They just need to keep working."
