Colcord's Community Center gets a face lift

The Dan Draper Community Center in Colcord, Okla., recently received a face lift thanks to a $25,000 grant from Grand Gateway Economic Development Association.

The Draper Center was erected in 1970 and serves as a focal point in the Colcord community, as well as much of southern Delaware County.

The 44-year-old center has been used extensively over the years and was in dire need of a face lift. Former Colcord Superintendent J.D. Parkerson petitioned Grand Gateway Economic Development Association for a Rural Economic Action Plan Grant to renovate the Center. The Grand Gateway board approved $25,000 for the purpose.

The recently completed renovation addressed many of the issues with the building.

Area residents currently use the center for functions such as family and school reunions, weddings, funerals, Chamber of Commerce meetings and events, and fundraising events for local causes. In addition Colcord Public Schools use the facility for events including, but not limited to, band concerts, art shows, awards assemblies, elementary and middle school graduation, proms, as well as activity fundraisers.

Photos of the renovated building are available on the school website, www.colcordschools.com.
