JBU golf finishes second at first-ever home tournament

ROGERS -- For the first time in program history, the John Brown men's golf team hosted an event and fell just 15 shots shy of capturing the title as the Golden Eagles finished second place in the one-day, 18-hole competition held April 1 at Shadow Valley Country Club.

Sophomore Trevor Barton again led the way for JBU and carded a seven-over 79 on the par-72, 6,803-yard course. Junior Sam Greenleaf pocketed an eight-over 80 as did junior Robert Raborn. Sophomore Josh Crystal finished with an 85 as JBU finished in second place with a team score of 324.

Evangel (Mo.) captured the one-day title with a 309 team score. The other team, Oklahoma Wesleyan, finished in third at a 337, 13 shots behind John Brown.

Competing as individuals, junior Max Gordon carded an 85 while senior Tommy Wright chipped in with an 86. Freshman Owen Brown finished the day at 90.

John Brown returned to the links on Monday and Tuesday in Mountain Home to compete in the Bear State Bank Invitational, hosted by Henderson State (Ark.). The tournament will span two days and feature a majority of NCAA II programs.
