McPHERSON, Kan. -- In her first singles action of her career, freshman Clare Holden picked up a win at No. 6 and the John Brown women's tennis team evened its season record with a 9-0 whitewash of Central Christian (Kan.) Friday afternoon.

JBU (3-3) has now won two of its last three contests. The freshman combo of Caitlin King and Grace Cusick kicked off the match with an easy 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles, pushing the tandem's record to 2-3 on the season. Junior Krizana Saucedo and freshman Eva Berry teamed up at No. 2 doubles for another convincing 8-3 win while the senior tandem of Kellie Mowrer and Courtney Pinter rode an 8-4 win over Shelbi Mathis and Megan Gayer in their first action of doubles play this season.

Holden then stepped up and grabbed a 6-0, 2-0 lead at No. 6 singles before Austyn Chenoweth was forced to retire due to injury. Another injury occurred at No. 5 singles, allowing Berry to pick up her fourth individual win of the season. Sophomore Taylor Russell topped Kelsey Marx in sweeping fashion at No. 3 for a 6-0 JBU lead. Pinter increased her season record to 3-1 at the top flight with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Mathis. Mowrer nabbed her first singles win of the season in pro set manner, 8-5, over Stevie Penn at No. 2.

To complete the shutout, Saucedo easily dispatched Em Barnett, 8-1, also in pro fashion, to run her record to 5-1 this year in individual play.

The Golden Eagles were scheduled to play at NCAA Division III school Ozarks (Ark.) on Tuesday. Results were not available at presstime.
