Farmers Market shifts to Tuesday afternoon

When the Siloam Springs Farmers Market opens for the season on April 28 it will operate with new times on Tuesdays.

The Tuesday market will begin at 3 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. Saturday hours will remain the same, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The change came after Main Street Siloam Springs asked for feedback about the market. More than 90 percent of the people surveyed requested the later hours because it would allow working residents time to go to the market during the week.

"We're excited to offer more convenient hours to our community during the work week," said Main Street Siloam Springs executive director Meredith Bergstrom. "We hope that people enjoy shopping after work and can go home with fresh, local products to cook for dinner."

On opening day, the market will have live entertainment from LORE, a local band, from 5 to 7 p.m., and the mobile SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) unit will be on site to help eligible families register for SNAP and EBT benefits, according to a press release from Main Street Siloam Springs.

Senior citizens who are eligible for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, which offers coupons for produce, need to sign up for the program at the Siloam Springs Senior Center, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 21.

People requesting to join the program should be age 60 or older, have proof of household income (family of 1 - $1,815, family of 2, $2,456, family of 3, $3,098, family of 4, $3,739, add $642 for each additional member), and a photo I.D. Eligible applicants will receive one coupon book per household per year to purchase locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey from the market.
