Wasted time getting nothing done

It seems like so much time is spent in waiting, like waiting to see the dentist or doctor or veterinarian, waiting for it to rain -- or stop raining, or waiting for the car to be serviced, or waiting in the check-out lines of stores, or waiting for the traffic light to change.

This past month, we have had to wait for the grass to get dry enough to mow, to install a new roof, and to pour a new sidewalk and deck. Meanwhile, there has been a profuse growth of spring greenery.

Even more time is wasted on looking for stuff. Now, where is that other W2 form? It was in the black desk drawer with all the others. I have four pairs of reading glasses, and I can never find a pair when I need them to read the labels on my pill bottles! I had the car keys in my hand when I came in the front door. Now, where did I put them?

What all do we need from the grocery store? I had a list on the kitchen table; did you throw it away? I know we needed milk, bread, and ginger ale....what else? Peanut butter, pasta, or olive oil? Wait a minute, the list was in the pocket of that work shirt I was wearing when I went to feed the chickens and gather the eggs!

I wonder why I never get to finish a cup of hot coffee. The phone usually rings to tell me before I take the first sip that we have won a free trip to the Bahamas (no, thanks); or the dog is barking to be let out or in, or fed more; or the doorbell is ringing (someone is lost and looking for the Kayak Park).

Please don't tell me "Get organized!" I have a bookcase full of books on that subject.

Before I got into the world of programming computers, my job included doing time and motion studies and designing more efficient manually prepared records and reports for a company before it had converted to computers.
