National Night Out this week

The City of Siloam Springs announced two events for this week to celebrate National Night Out.

One is a kickoff event and the other consists of block parties throughout the city. This is the first year the city has participated in National Night Out activities.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods a safer, better place to live.

Neighborhoods across the nation will participate by hosting block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, and visits from emergency personnel and exhibits.

The City's kickoff event for National Night Out is 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at the Family Aquatic Center. It is free and open to the public.

There will be bounce houses, music, free cookies and water, as well as other concession items available for purchase. Attendees will also receive giveaways.

The Police Department will also have a booth set up for child identification kits, which includes a photo and fingerprints. Officers will also be present so residents can get to know the them.

Block parties will be held throughout the city from 5:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5. Individuals can sign up for block parties through the city's website. No individual event permits are required to have a block party during the city's National Night Out event. Registered parties will be able to use city barricades to close off sections of streets. Police officers will also stop by parties with prizes.
