Tennis continues strong start

GREENWOOD -- The Siloam Springs tennis teams continued their strong starts to the 2015 season at Greenwood on Thursday.

In boys action, the Panthers and Bulldogs split 14 matches combined in singles and doubles, while Siloam Springs won three of its five matches in girls play.

Boys

Siloam Springs newcomers Igor Jacociunas and Orest Los each picked up two wins apiece in boys singles, and they combined for a doubles win as well.

Jacociunas defeated Greenwood's Sweeney 8-1 and later picked up a win against Paxton Evans 6-2.

Los defeated Tammarath 8-1 and then defeated Greenwood's Andrew Anderson 7-6 (7-4 in tiebreaker).

Los and Jacociunas picked up an 8-3 win in boys doubles against the team of Anderson and Evans, who were boys doubles semifinalists in Class 6A in 2014.

Senior Heyden Smith lost to Loyd 8-5 in boys singles, while Noah Slater defeated Sweeney 6-4 and Kip Dooley defeated Tammarath 8-2.

Tammarath defeated Smith 8-0 in boys singles.

In boys doubles, the team of Dooley and Slater lost to Anderson and Evans 8-4.

Smith and Michael Guffey of Siloam Springs lost 8-2 to Walker and Woodring of Greenwood.

Dooley and Slater lost to Walker and Woodring by a score of 8-6.

Reagan McCarver and Chad Hall of Siloam Springs lost to Walker and Woodring 8-0, and McCarver and Hall were also defeated by Greenwood's Sweeney and Shown 8-2.

Girls

Olivia Myers picked up two wins in girls singles for Siloam Springs.

Myers picked up a win by default against Greenwood's Rylko. She also defeated Greenwood's Swilling 8-4.

Greenwood's team of Rice and Keene defeated Siloam Springs' duo of Brooke Hutto and Averie Headrick 6-1.

Headrick and Hutto rebounded to pick up a 6-3 win against Greenwood's pair of Scherff and Alzofari.

Scherff and Alzofari defeated Siloam Springs' team of Valerie Lee and Kacie Soderquist 6-0.
