Seventh-grade boys cap perfect season

The Siloam Springs seventh-grade boys basketball team capped a perfect season on Thursday of last week with a 50-23 victory over Zion (Okla.) at Panther Arena.

The Panthers finished the season with a 21-0 record.

"It has been a fun year with these boys," said Siloam Springs seventh-grade head coach Conlan Efurd. "They worked hard until the last second of the last game. We couldn't have asked any more of them."

Siloam Springs led 17-5 after the first quarter after Jordan Stewart connected on a last-second shot.

The Panthers extended that lead to 21 points in the second quarter and just before the quarter ended, Gage Weaver dove on the floor for a loose ball and tipped it to Drew Vachon, who fired a quick pass to Thad Wright for an easy lay-up.

The Panthers finished the game strong with transition defense.

Dominic Alfaro's pass to Ethan Barton for a bank shot in the lane highlighted the second half.

Vachon led the Panthers with 12 points, while Wright had 11 and Barton 10. Weaver, Ranson Van Asche and Braxton Bahr each scored four points. Jordan Stewart had three points, while Evan Sauer had two.

On Wednedsay, the seventh-grade boys picked up a road win at Gentry 45-7.

Bahr led the Panthers with 11 points, while Wright had nine, Van Asche six, Barton five, Weaver and Stewart four each, Sauer three and Alfaro and Vachon two each.

Siloam Springs won the junior varsity game against Gentry 27-7.

Tyler Sharp led the Panthers with six points, while Dawson Smith had five, Luke Engle, Zach Hailey and Micah Ritz with four each, and Taden Kittle and Mason Cooper each with two.
