American Legion Post 29 wins awards at convention

The American Legion's, Siloam Post 29, 2014-2015 year of service ends June 30. The local legion has just finished its annual carnival and is currently operating a fireworks stand in conjunction with Boy Scout Troop 3766.

Legion delegates attended the American Legion Department of Arkansas Convention in Little Rock on June 26 - 28. The legion is a national organization that breaks up its state chapters in terms of departments, said incoming Post 29 Commander Less Carroll.

At the convention the post was recognized for its retention and recruitment methods and presented a plaque for having the best children and youth program in the state. Also an entry for the Drug Awareness Poster contest was awarded second place for the state. That award and the others will be at the post for everyone at the coffee with the commander every Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Also J.W. Smith, post adjutant, received the Department of Arkansas Five Star Adjutant Award for the 2014-2015 year. And the post auxiliary unit 29 received first place for community service, the 100 percent membership award and first place in small division unit of the poppy program. The unit also placed fourth in the Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation program.

The incoming commander and the new unit president, Robin Carroll, said they are looking forward to the new year.
