Celebrating Summer Reading 2015

"Every Hero Has a Story" was the theme for the 2015 Summer Reading Program. A total of 423 children signed up for the reading portion this summer. More results will be in the next Library Musings column. Thank you to all of the participants, the program presenters, the 37 community sponsors, the volunteers, the Friends of the Siloam Springs Library Foundation, Parks and Recreation Department and the wonderful staff of the Siloam Springs Public Library who helped to make this program a reality. We also want to specifically recognize the library program coordinator, Delilah Williamson, who worked to organize this event. Without all of you, the Summer Reading Program would not have happened.

As a follow-up to the 2015 Summer Reading Program we are incorporating a Summer Reading Challenge for the month of August to encourage children to stay in their routine of reading. This challenge is a checklist -- you check off as many items on the list as possible.

• Have you read in a tent, in the grass or at the library?

• Have you read before bed, while riding in a car or under an umbrella?

• Have you read a book with a one word title, a book that's a part of a series or a book set in another country?

The children will get a prize for turning the list in. This does not have to be a fully completed checklist to earn the prize since some of the items won't apply to some children. The due date for this challenge is Aug. 31.

Fall programming for children and teens will begin Tuesday, Sept. 8. The weekly schedule will be as follows:

• Mondays -- Movie at 4:30 p.m.

• Tuesdays -- After-school program at 4:30 p.m.

• Thursdays -- Pre-school program at 11 a.m.

• Thursdays -- Home school program at 11 a.m.

• Second Thursday of the month -- Teen/Tween program at 4:30 p.m.
