Letter to the Editor

Thank you to Gary Baird

The community of Siloam Springs has been blessed for several years to have the Genesis House available as a day care and resource center for the homeless and those at risk of homelessness in our town. If not for the Genesis House these folks would not have much of a chance to overcome their plight.

During this time one man, the Reverend Gary Baird, has been the driving force at Genesis House, working to provide assistance for citizens that have fallen on hard times and in need of temporary shelter, food, a shower, clothing, laundry services and other resources to help them during their struggles. All of these services are provided by the Genesis House.

Gary has served as the Executive Director of Genesis House for the past 10 years and done so with a great serving heart of compassion and caring. I have known Gary for several years now, first as the regional coordinator of United Way of Northwest Arkansas for five years and most recently serving on the board of Genesis House for the past two years. I have marveled at Gary's ability to deal with the stressful situations inherent in homelessness and the concern of seeking donations and grants to keep the doors open at Genesis House. Because of Gary's efforts, Genesis House will continue the high standard of help and hope for the homeless into the coming years as we transition to our new executive director, Harvey McCone.

I am sure I speak for everyone in our community when I say "thank you Gary" for your service and dedication. You have earned your retirement and we wish you all the best and may God continue to bless you and Sally as you move thru your next journey in life. As it reads in the scriptures, "Good job my good and faithful servant."
