Chamber of Commerce creates new award to honor Cavness for volunteerism

A new recognition award will be given each year at the Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce's annual banquet.

The Jerry Cavness Nonprofit Organization of the Year Award was created to recognize the efforts of the many nonprofit entities located in Siloam Springs that do a great deal of good work in the community.

The award was named after Jerry Cavness, a long-time resident of Siloam Springs, who has a passion for nonprofits. Having been the Siloam Springs Director of United Way for many years, followed by many hours spent working with the board of The Genesis House, it was appropriate for him to be recognized this way.

The Nonprofit Organization of the Year program recognizes one of the nonprofit Chamber members that stepped up to help or promote the Chamber.

Those being considered will have shown commitment to the Commerce above and beyond what would be expected in the following ways:

• Attending Chamber functions

• Volunteering time

• Participating on committees and participating with special requests such as employee retention and expansion surveys, and the ambassador program

• Investing in sponsorships, keeping in mind that as a nonprofit assets are usually not available.

Ambassadors will look at data provided by The Chamber as far as participation and involvement and make recommendations. The top three options, including any details for why they should receive this recognition will be considered for this honor. Nonprofits can receive this recognition once in a three-year period.

The winner will be recognized at the Chamber's annual banquet, receive a plaque and be recognized on the Chamber's Facebook page.
