Bowlers participate in state meet

After multiple date changes due to weather, the Arkansas 7A/6A State Bowling championship finally took place on March 11 at the Jonesboro Bowling Center.

The championship was originally scheduled for Feb. 18 but was postponed by weather. The first makeup date on Feb. 25 was also postponed, as was the makeup date on March 4.

"It was really a challenge for us to keep our focus during the three weeks," said Siloam Springs bowling coach Ken Bolinger.

Junior Caylin Silvey represented the Siloam Springs girls team and bowled a 140, 148 and 156 for a 444 series, averaging 148 and finishing 30th overall. She averaged 128 on the season.

"She had a really good day," Bolinger said.

Erica Springer qualified as an alternate but didn't get to participate.

On the boys side, senior Kyle Rice and freshman Nathaniel Brown represented the Panthers.

Rice finished with a 161, 167 and 200 for a 528 series and finished 40th.

"Rice had some difficulty adjusting to the lanes but never gave up," Bolinger said.

Brown rolled a 178, 194 and 171 for a 543 series. He averaged 181 for the tournament, finishing nine pins higher than his season average, Bolinger said.
