First Assembly of God, West Siloam Springs

First Assembly of God of West Siloam Springs, Okla., will be hosting a special weekend of events to help our community learn constructive ways to deal with trauma.

The weekend begins with a special breakfast to honor all area Fire, EMS, Police and First Responders. The breakfast will be June 6, 2015, at 8 a.m. All area personnel are invited and encouraged to attend. Special guest speaker, Dr. Mike Ferguson will be speaking on, "Dealing with Trauma."

Dr. Mike Ferguson has a PhD is Psychology and is a Psychologist and Suicidologist, minister, trainer and speaker who specializes in helping others deal with crisis situations.

In addition to this Dr. Ferguson is certified in Adult and Youth Mental Health First Aid, Psychological Autopsy, Applied Suicide Intervention, Suicide2Hope, QPR Suicide Prevention, Trauma Informed Response Training and is a member of the American Association of Suicidology and a trained Field Advocate for the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention.

Dr. Ferguson travels the nation speaking about mental health issues and training others to respond to these issues within their families, workplace and various other situations.

Dr. Ferguson will be ministering Sunday, June 7, at 10:45 a.m. during the Sunday morning worship service. All whose lives have been touched by suicide or any other traumatic life event are encouraged to attend.

Watts FBC Vacation Bible School

Watts (Okla.) First Baptist Church will host its Vacation Bible School for ages 5 to 12th grade from 6 to 8:30 p.m. June 8-12. The theme is "Journey off the Map." For more information or if transportation is needed, call 479-524-4803.

Summer meal program

Grace Episcopal Church is participating in the USDA Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturdays at the Siloam Springs Farmers Market, starting on June 13 and ending on Aug. 15.

Christian book sales

The Tattered Page is a used Christian bookstore carrying topics ranging from christian living, fiction, study, self-help, parenting and Bibles. The current sale is buy 2 books, get one free. The bookstore is a non-profit with all sales going to Kind at Heart Ministries, which helps and supports the elderly and disabled in the community. The bookstore is accepting book donations. Harvard Avenue Baptist Church

Mothering Matters

Mothering Matters, a ministry of Siloam Springs Bible Church, is designed to minister to mothers of young children. Meetings will be generally held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the first and third Fridays of each month. The premise of Mothering Matters is based on Titus 2:3-5. Childcare is provided.
