DaySpring to fight summer hunger with Pack Shack

n Employees to pack 20,000 meals for Siloam Springs area.

The employees of DaySpring Cards will team with The Pack Shack to pack more than 20,000 meals for local food banks and charitable organizations on Tuesday morning.

"Benton County ranks second in the state in number of people living in poverty," says James Barnett, president of DaySpring. "Many kids rely on the school cafeteria to provide more than half of their meals. With the school year winding down, there is an increasing number of children without a meal to count on this summer."

"Our HR team is always working on company events," says Rodney Stanford, human resources specialist. "So we thought what better way to celebrate our community than to combine a party with a purpose. We want to do our part to keep Siloam kids and families fed this summer."

DaySpring pays for the food and sets aside company time for employees to participate. The Pack Shack brings the food and packing material to the company's premises, trains the employees, and sets up the process.

"It's a fun, but productive time," said Stanford. "There's music, dancing, and of course, hair nets."

After the one-hour event, DaySpring will donate the packed meals to the Manna Center, Hunger and Thirst Ministries, the Community Storehouse, and the Senior Activity Center of Siloam Springs.
