Eighth-grade girls win opener

BENTONVILLE -- The Siloam Springs eighth-grade girls basketball team outscored Bentonville Lincoln 15-8 in the fourth period to pull away for a 35-25 victory on Thursday in the Lady Panthers' season-opener.

Madison Pharr led the Lady Panthers (1-0) with 14 points, while Maddie Vaughan had six, Shelby Johnson five, Morgan Winesburg four, Megan Jackson two, Hannah Birkes two, Alexsis Fortner one and Brooke Henderson one.

The game was tied 14-14 at halftime and Siloam Springs took a 20-17 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Eighth-grade boys

Thad Wright scored 15 points and Drew Vachon added 10 points, but the Siloam Springs eighth-grade boys basketball team dropped a 47-35 decision at Bentonville Lincoln on Thursday night.

Siloam Springs led at halftime but wore down in the fourth quarter, according to coach Michael Robertson, while the Leopards' shooting heated up.

Evan Sauer added three points for the Panthers (0-1), while Gage Weaver and Carson Wleklinski each had two points.

Both eighth-grade teams play next on Monday at Springdale George.
