JBU golf ends with eighth-place finish

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The John Brown men's golf team closed down the 2015-16 campaign with an eighth-place finish at the Sooner Athletic Conference championships on Tuesday, April 19, behind a strong top-20 performance from junior Trevor Barton, at the Waterchase Golf Club.

Barton shot his lowest round today in the third, posting a one-under 71 to cap off a 76-76-71-223 to finish the tournament seven-over and alone in 20th place.

Senior Sam Greenleaf finished the two-day, 7,085-yard course with a 12-over (81-72-75-228) and landed in a tie for 31st overall. Senior Robert Raborn carded a 15-over 231 (79-75-77) to grab a tie for 36th while freshman Gage Parker finished in 46th place with a 23-over 239 (83-78-78).

Freshman Tristan Kadel and senior Max Gordon closed down the season with a 39 and 41 over, respectively.

This marks the final match for the JBU golf program as the program is ending this season.

Individual champion Rupert Kaminski paced Oklahoma City University to the team title with a 21-under 195 (67-63-65) to take the individual league crown. The Stars, ranked sixth in the NAIA, secured its sixth SAC title in seven years by producing a 282-272-276-830. City notched its 21st SAC title by a 29-shot margin and landed its 18th title in the last 20 years.

The Golden Eagles turned in a team score of 916 (319-296-301), which was 52 over, and grabbed eighth place, just nine shots shy of both St. Thomas (Texas) and Houston-Victoria (Texas). Four Red River Athletic Conference programs competed in the SAC this season.

Second-ranked Wayland Baptist (Texas) finished as team runner-up with an 859 (286-290-283) while seventh-ranked Texas Wesleyan took third with an 861 (290-283-288).

OCU and Wayland Baptist earned the conference's bids into the NAIA Championships on May 24-27 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. National-tournament qualifiers will be announced May 12.
