Students report on RYLA

Photo submitted Students from Siloam Springs High School gave a report about their experience at Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp on Tuesday, April 19, to the Siloam Springs Rotarians. This year’s event was held April 14-17 at the Salvation Army’s “Heart of the Hills” campground in Welling, Okla. Pictured from left to right are Lilieen Mejia, John Salley, Krystal Wheat with the high school and Kip Dooley. Also attending the RYLA event but not pictured was Alison Creasey, who had a prior conflicting commitment at school. RYLA is a leadership and training program designed to develop youth leaders, by breaking them out of their comfort zones and encouraging service above self. RYLA gives students the confidence to communicate ideas and impact their community and beyond, by becoming life changers in the lives of those that they come in contact with. RYLA is a Rotary sponsored event, focused on students in their junior year of high school. The reports from all three students indicated that their RYLA experience exceeded their expectations and taught them many life lessons in a very short amount of time.
