Registration Open for JBU's Giving Voice Writing Festival

Registration for JBU's annual "Giving Voice: A Festival of Writing and the Arts" is now open for high school students.

Giving Voice, a two-day event held Sept. 22-23, celebrates writing and the arts through readings, workshops and gatherings. On Friday, Sept. 23, the festival invites high school students from the area to participate in a variety of workshops taught by JBU faculty and invited guests--poet Marilyn Nelson, novelist Gina Ochsner, essayist Christ Hoke and singer/songwriter Betty Soo. The workshops include topics on songwriting, improvisation, nonfiction writing, poetry, playwriting, film, calligraphy and screen printing.

"Giving Voice gives students in the region a unique opportunity to explore one of our greatest gifts: creativity," said Dr. Jessica Wilson, assistant professor of English at JBU and coordinator of the festival. "Participating in the arts inspires us to create a fuller, more beautiful picture of the world."

The festival costs $10 per student. One sponsor can attend free with every 10 students. To register, visit jbu.edu/giving_voice/registration/. Registration closes Sept. 12.
