Ninth-grade teams sweep Springdale Southwest

SPRINGDALE -- Matthew Avery scored a season-high 16 points as the Siloam Springs ninth-grade boys picked up a 43-32 road win at Springdale Southwest on Thursday night.

The Panthers (7-13, 2-5 Northwest Arkansas Conference) trailed 14-9 after the first quarter but they outscored the Cougars 10-6 in the second to pull within 20-19 at halftime.

Both teams scored five points in the third quarter as Southwest maintained its one-point lead, but Siloam Springs outscored the Cougars 19-7 in the fourth quarter to surge ahead for the win.

Murphy Perkins scored 10 points for Siloam Springs, while Kaiden Thrailkill had eight, Karson Clement six, Jacob Wakefield two and Baron Meek one.

Girls

The Siloam Springs ninth-grade girls picked up a win on Thursday, winning 31-20 at Springdale Southwest.

The Lady Panthers (7-14, 3-4) jumped out to a 14-8 lead after the first quarter and pulled ahead 20-10 at halftime.

Southwest pulled within 24-18 going into the fourth quarter, but the Lady Panthers pulled away for the victory in the fourth.

Alexis Roach led Siloam Springs with 12 points, while Chloe Price and Turtle Shreve each scored seven, Hailey Dorsey with four and Katie Kendrick with one.

Both the eighth-grade teams and the ninth-grade teams host Springdale Lakeside on Wednesday at Siloam Springs High School. The eighth-grade boys play at 5:30 p.m. in the Panther Den followed by the eighth-grade girls at 6:45 p.m. The ninth-grade girls play at 5:30 p.m. in Panther Activity Center, followed by the boys at 6:45 p.m.
