Happy for Manning; Snavely featured

Well Super Bowl 50 has come and gone, and congratulations to the Denver Broncos and their fans for an outstanding win on Sunday.

Have we seen the last of Peyton Manning? On the football field, it's a great possibility that this was the Sheriff's last rodeo, and if it is, what a way to go.

Even if it is Peyton's last game though, I bet we'll still see him all over television. His commercials have been so funny for so long, I don't see those coming to an end. He might have gotten started Sunday night with all those Budweiser references. There might be a future in broadcasting down the road. We will see.

In today's sports section, we have the fun story of Siloam Springs senior basketball standout Kyle Snavely.

Another version of this story is scheduled to run in the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Friday as well before the Panthers play at Russellville.

Along with the print versions of the stories, the production team at Siloam Springs High School is supposed to produce a video of Snavely that will be linked to the story on ARpreps.com on Friday.

You've probably seen some of these stories already this basketball season in the NWADG, and there was one every Friday night during football season, including one on Siloam Springs football standout Ricky Hughes.

And if the schedule falls as it's supposed to, we'll have another NWADG feature down the road on a Siloam Springs girls player.

These stories are a lot of fun to do and it's great to see our Siloam Springs athletes being recognized in the region's premier newspaper.

In case you missed it, Siloam Springs had 10 (yes, 10!) athletes sign to play at the next level last week on Feb. 3, aka national signing day. Five football players, three cross country runners and two baseball standouts are going to get a chance to continue their careers at the next level.

And my guess is we're not done with signings yet either.

I know of possibly a couple more baseball kids that may sign, along with basketball players like Snavely, who will get a shot to play in college.

It's always great to see our local kids sign to play at the next level, and to have 10 of them in one day speaks volumes about the quality of athletic experience they are getting at Siloam Springs High School.

Last and certainly not least, congratulations to Alexis Duffy for winning the state indoor high jump championship last weekend at the Arkansas State Indoor Meet in Fayetteville.

Duffy hasn't been able to practice much with track teams so far because she's still playing basketball, and she's having a terrific season on the basketball court as well.

She jumped 5-4 to win the state title on Saturday. Hopefully this is a sign of great things to come for Duffy and the track teams under the leadership of the best husband-and-wife coaching team in the state, Chuck and Sharon Jones.
