Vachon's big night propels eighth-grade boys

BENTONVILLE -- Drew Vachon scored 22 points and the Siloam Springs eighth-grade boys beat Bentonville Washington 37-23 on Thursday.

The Panthers (4-4) led 11-9 after the first quarter and 15-10 at halftime. Washington closed within 20-19 going into the fourth quarter, but the Panthers outscored the Wildcats 17-4 in the period led by Vachon's nine points.

Evan Sauer and Ransom Van Asche each had four points for the Panthers, while Jordan Stewart had two.

Girls

The Siloam Springs girls basketball team got off to a good start Thursday against Bentonville Washington, but the Lady Panthers couldn't sustain it in a 26-17 loss.

Siloam Springs led 7-4 after the first quarter, but the Lady Wildcats tied it 9-9 at halftime and pulled ahead 20-11 after the third quarter.

Madison Pharr led the Lady Panthers (2-6) with 12 points, while Shelby Johnson and Hannah Birkes each had two, and Brooke Henderson had one.

The eighth-grade teams host Rogers Kirksey on Monday. The boys game begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Panther Den, followed by the girls game at 6:45 p.m.
