Woodland sweeps Siloam Springs eighth-grade teams

The Siloam Springs eighth-grade boys trailed Fayetteville Woodland 14-10 after the first quarter on Thursday, but the Cowboys outscored the Panthers 36-13 the rest of the way in a 50-23 win.

The Panthers (5-6) trailed 26-14 at halftime and 35-18 after the third quarter.

Thad Wright led the Panthers with eight points, while Drew Vachon and Ransom Van Asche each had four, Reed Willbanks three, and Jackson Norberg and Gage Weaver each with two.

On Wednesday, three Siloam Springs players scored in double figures in a 58-50 victory at Springdale Southwest.

Vachon led the Panthers with 14 points, while Jordan Stewart had 13 and Wright added 11. Van Asche scored seven, while Evan Sauer had four, Norberg three, Weaver and Carson Wleklinski each with two.

Eighth-grade girls

The Siloam Springs eighth-grade girls had their two-game winning streak snapped Thursday with a 47-25 loss at Fayetteville Woodland.

Woodland outscored Siloam Springs 12-6 in the first period but the Lady Panthers (4-7) rallied to pull within 22-19 at halftime. Woodland turned the game into a rout in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Panthers 20-2 to take a 42-21 lead going into the fourth.

Shelby Johnson led Siloam Springs with 10 points, while Jael Harried had six, Abbie Vaughan four, Madison Pharr three and Morgan Winesburg two.

On Wednesday, the Lady Panthers picked up a road win at Springdale Southwest 31-23.

Siloam Springs outscored Southwest 8-4 in the first quarter, but Southwest outscored the Lady Panthers 16-8 in the second quarter to take a 20-16 lead at halftime.

However, in the second half, the Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Cougars 15-3, including a 10-1 advantage in the third quarter to take a 26-21 lead.

Johnson led the Lady Panthers with 10 points, while Pharr, Harried and Winesburg each had six and Vaughan three.

Up next

Both eighth-grade teams host Fayetteville Ramay on Monday inside the Panther Den at Siloam Springs High School. The eighth-grade boys will play first at 5:30 p.m., followed by the girls at 6:45 p.m.
