Siloam Springs cross country coach Sharon Jones was recently named Arkansas' 2015 Coach of the Year for girls cross country by the National Federation of High School Coaches Association.

Jones -- who just completed her eighth season at the helm of both cross country programs at Siloam Springs -- led the Lady Panthers to the 2015 state championship, capturing back-to-back 6A state titles in girls cross country.

"I do feel very honored," Jones said. "There are a lot more worthy coaches out there that coach their tails off each year and never get recognized. I feel very fortunate to be in Siloam and in the position I'm in. I love my job. I love the kiddos I get to work with each day."

Jones also credited her cross country staff in Conlan Efurd, Abby Ray and Craig Cowart.

"I love the staff we have in cross country," Jones said. "Coach Efurd, Coach Ray, and Coach Cowart work really hard and deserve to be recognized as well. It's a team effort. Together we have built a culture of success here in Siloam and more importantly have developed a mutual love and respect for each other, coaches and teammates.

"We really love our team and I know they love each other. It's great that we can have those things and win, too."

It was the fifth state title overall for Jones at Siloam Springs, along with boys state titles in 2008 and 2009 and a girls state title in 2011.

"Ultimately, I know I'm being honored by this, because our kids put in a winning effort this year," Jones said. "Because of what they've achieved, I'm receiving this award. So, I'm thankful for them. Hopefully, I can pay them back by working them hard enough next year to do it again."

Jones has also led the Panthers and Lady Panthers to a combined five state runner-up finishes, including the varsity boys in both 2014 and 2015. The boys were also state runner-up finishers in 2010, while the girls were runner-up in 2012 and 2013.

"Sharon Jones does a tremendous job leading our cross country program," said Siloam Springs athletics director Kevin Downing. "She deserves this recognition and we are proud to have her in Siloam Springs."
