Weather moves games to Monday

n Softball and soccer games scheduled for Friday were postponed.

Mother nature had other plans Friday and Saturday for the several Siloam Springs spring sports teams.

Stormy weather on Friday postponed three 7A/6A-Central Conference games -- one each in softball, boys soccer and girls soccer.

More inclement weather on Saturday canceled a pair of nonconference games in McDonald County, Mo., for the Siloam Springs baseball team.

Softball

The Siloam Springs softball team was scheduled to host Greenwood in an important 6A game on Friday, but that game was postponed early Friday morning after the first wave of thunderstorms.

The game will now be played at 5 p.m. Monday at La-Z-Boy Park. Siloam Springs defeated Greenwood -- the defending 6A state champion -- 3-2 at Greenwood on April 5. So far it's the only conference loss for Greenwood (17-5, 10-1). However in the 10 games since that milestone victory, the Lady Panthers (14-9) are just 4-6.

Soccer

The call to postpone the Siloam Springs soccer games against Greenwood came later on Friday night. With Greenwood in town and the junior varsity games in progress, a system with lightning rolled through the area and delayed the start.

With the outlook not good for the rest of the night, the coaches decided to go ahead and postpone both varsity soccer games to Monday. The boys game will begin at 5 p.m., followed by senior night festivities and the girls game around 7 p.m.

The boys soccer team can clinch a No. 1 seed in the Class 6A state tournament with a win over the Bulldogs. The Panthers (11-5, 4-2) are 2-0 versus 6A competition, while Greenwood is 1-1 and Russellville is 0-2.

After Monday's game, the Panthers will travel to Russellville for another 6A game on Tuesday.

The girls soccer team cannot clinch a No. 1 seed on Monday, but the Lady Panthers (9-6-1, 3-3) can take a giant step in that direction with a win. Siloam Springs is 2-0 versus 6A competition while Greenwood is 0-2 and Russellville is 1-1.

A win Tuesday at Russellville would clinch the No. 1 seed for the Lady Panthers.

Baseball

The Siloam Springs baseball team added a pair of late games to its schedule earlier in the season to make up for previously postponed games.

The Panthers (11-14, 3-9) were going to play single games against McDonald County (Mo.) and Cassville (Mo.) in Anderson (Mo.) on Saturday morning and afternoon, but rain late Friday night and Saturday morning wiped both of those out. It's unlikely that either game will be rescheduled, coach Alan Hardcastle said.

Siloam Springs is scheduled to play two important 6A games this week, first versus Russellville on Tuesday and then Alma on Friday -- both at James Butts Baseball Complex.
