Post Office food drive May 9 - 14

The Siloam Springs Postal Service will be collecting food for its 24th annual food drive May 9 though 14.

The food collected is distributed between local food banks. Last year the post office collected 9,664 pounds of food, including matching donations. The goal this year is to collect 10,000 pounds, according to a release from the post office.

"As you know, the economy has been difficult and our food banks are in desperate need," the release stated. "They are feeding hundreds of families on a weekly basis, some as great as 1,000 meals weekly. We are asking for your support this year by donating two or more nonperishable food items."

The Siloam Springs Postal Service will collect food items left in or at mail boxes. Containers will be set up in the lobby at the post office as well for those who wish to deposit there.

Businesses and churches are also encouraged to set up a container or location for employees or members to donate. Organizations can make arrangements for the items to be picked up on Monday, May 16.

"Thank you in advance for your support and dedication in making this food drive a success," the release stated.

For more information or to arrange for pickup call the Siloam Springs Post Office at 479-524-3431.
