Ninth-grade teams lose at Allen Classic

The Siloam Springs ninth-grade girls fell to Greenwood 44-24 on Wednesday in a winner's bracket semifinals game in the Gray Division of the Allen Classic.

The Allen Classic finished on Saturday. Results were not available at presstime.

Greenwood led 12-1 after the first quarter, 28-10 at halftime and 39-18 going into the fourth quarter.

Jael Harried led Siloam Springs with 10 points, while Shelby Johnson had six, Turtle Shreve four, Madison Pharr three and Megan Jackson one.

The Lady Panthers played Providence Academy in the third place game on Saturday. Results were not available at presstime.

Siloam Springs Gray lost to Springdale Central 41-32 in the Gray boys winner's bracket semifinals on Wednesday.

Central led 11-6 after the first quarter and 24-16 at halftime. The Warriors pulled ahead 30-21 after the third quarter.

Drew Vachon led the Panthers with 12 points, while Evan Sauer had eight, Jordan Stewart and Ransom Van Asche each with four, and Thad Wright and Carson Wleklinski each with two.

On Thursday, the Siloam Springs Maroon 'B' team lost to Springdale Lakeside 46-34 in the Boys Maroon bracket. On Tuesday, Siloam Springs Maroon lost to Fort Smith Chaffin 35-10.

On Tuesday, the Siloam Springs eighth-grade boys beat Gentry 35-27 in an opening round Maroon Bracket game, while a combination of ninth-grade and eighth-grade girls lost to Gentry 37-22.

These two teams were playing in the tournament on Tuesday as a fill-in team after a Springdale Lakeside girls basketball player died during practice early Tuesday morning.

The Lakeside teams did not participate in the Allen Classic on Tuesday, but both returned to action on Thursday.
