McGooden variance tabled

An application that would allow a second driveway at one Siloam Springs business has been tabled to a later meeting by the Board of Adjustments again on Tuesday.

The proposed variance would allow Mike McGooden, owner of McGoo's Liquor, to re-open a driveway on the property that is now being leased by the liquor store. The driveway encroaches 36 feet into a setback from a nearby driveway being used by the adjacent furniture store. Both driveways were used simultaneously during the property's previous use.

Senior Planner Ben Rhoads said Siloam Springs received a letter from McGooden on Monday, asking that the permit be tabled to a meeting in December. The permit had been tabled twice previously, which Rhoads said was due to a family emergency. Rhoads said the same emergency is most likely responsible for McGooden's request to table again.

Rhoads said the board had a few options. They could choose to table the permit to Dec. 13, after the regular Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, table to the Board of Adjustment meeting on Dec. 22 or a later meeting, or choose to ignore the request to table and hear the permit without McGooden present.

After some discussion, board chairman Karl Mounger suggested tabling to the Dec. 13 meeting with the stipulation that if McGooden is not present, the board hear the permit at that time anyway. The board agreed, and the measure was tabled with a vote of 5-0, with board members Judy Nation and Ted Song absent.

That being the only agenda item, the Board of Adjustments was then adjourned.
