Greenwood takes down SSHS tennis

The Siloam Springs tennis teams were defeated Tuesday in a 6A-West Conference match against Greenwood at the John Brown University Tennis Courts.

The Panthers were defeated at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles and wound up losing 5-2, while Greenwood swept the girls match by a score of 4-0.

"It wasn't one of our best days," said Siloam Springs tennis coach Scott Wright, "but we learned and will continue to improve."

In the boys match, Greenwood's Andrew Anderson defeated the Panthers' Orest Los 8-5 in No. 1 singles. Greenwood's Woody Woodring defeated Chad Hall at No. 2 singles 8-2, but Woodring later lost to Los 8-3 in another singles match.

The Siloam Springs No. 1 doubles team of seniors Kip Dooley and Noah Slater were defeated by Greenwood's team of Paxton Evans and Kenny Sweney 8-1.

Greenwood's pair of Johnny Tammaruth and Carson Loyd defeated Siloam Springs' team of Oliver Reid and Zayn Snow 6-3.

Dooley and Slater turned around and defeated Tammaruth and Loyd 8-3.

Greenwood's Eli Butler and Austin Shown defeated Michael Guffey and Reagan McCarver in the final doubles match 8-5.

In girls, Greenwood's Olivia Gaston defeated Siloam Springs senior Olivia Myers at No. 1 singles 8-1.

Darian Wilson of Greenwood defeated Siloam Springs' Averie Headrick 8-3 at the other singles spot.

Greenwood won both doubles games as Maria Geoly and Lindsay Gills defeated Caroline Dinger and Anna Claire Lewis 8-0, while Hailey Rice and Abigail Woodring topped Brook Hutto and Kacey Soderquist 8-1.

The Panthers and Lady Panthers will participate in a jamboree at Bentonville on Thursday before playing another 6A-Conference match on Oct. 3 at Greenwood, where they will play Greenwood and Lake Hamilton. Siloam Springs will play its final home match on Oct. 4 against Haas Hall and NWA Classical Academy at JBU.

The 6A-West Conference Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 10-11 in Little Rock, while the Class 6A State Tournament is Oct. 17-18 in Jonesboro.
