The Siloam Springs Panthers, after a punishing loss to Fayetteville the previous week, bounced back to hang a 20-6 shellacking on the Bentonville Tigers. The game was played in Bentonville, as a climax to the County Fair, and for Panther fans there was plenty to cheer about.
The Tigers were winless in four starts previous to the Friday night encounter with Siloam, dropping a 1-AA conference clash for five in a row.

Telemart Discount Centers Inc. of Springfield, Ill., announced that Siloam Springs had been chosen to test their new catalog shopping service. Don Booth of Booth Appliance & TV was selected as the agent for Telemart.
Booth said Telemart would offer over 7,000 name-brand products through their catalog.
Telemart Discount Centers would provide the residents of the Siloam Springs area the most modern, up to date, state of the art ordering equipment available anywhere. Utilizing the newly developed ordering system, Booth said customers should receive their purchases within days instead of weeks.
Siloam Springs was one of 14 communities chosen nationwide. After a brief test period in those trade areas, Telemart planned to install a nationwide network of catalog outlets. Booth said he was very excited and proud to bring a new industry to the Siloam Springs area.

The late head of Allen Canning Co. was among those inducted into the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame.
Delbert E. Allen Sr. was one of five people selected by the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas. The group was to be inducted Feb. 9 at the ninth annual induction ceremony at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.
Allen was chairman and chief executive officer of Allen Canning Co. in Siloam Springs. The company entered his family in 1926 when his father, Earl Allen, bought the business, which survived the Great Depression and helped feed U.S. troops in World War II.
Delbert Allen Sr. took over in 1948 and expanded the business through acquisitions that led to facilities in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and Wisconsin.
In 1960, he founded Arkansas State Bank, now Liberty Bank of Arkansas. (Now Centennial Bank)
