Two weekends of Pickin' Time on 59

n Both events will be held at the Siloam Springs Municipal Airport.

Shoppers and sellers will have two weekends in a row to enjoy the fifth annual Pickin' Time on 59 in Siloam Springs next month.

The community yard sale will be held at the Siloam Springs Municipal Airport on Oct. 6, 7 and 8, and Oct. 13, 14 and 15. Applications for sellers who would like to participate are currently being accepted, according to organizer Kathy Turner.

Pickin' Time on 59 is a collaboration of the Siloam Springs, Gentry, Decatur and Sulphur Springs Chambers of Commerce, Turner said. However, Siloam Springs is the only town that will hold the event for two weekends in a row. The other towns will hold the sale on Oct. 6, 7 and 8, with Oct. 13, 14 and 15 reserved as a rain-out date.

Over the past couple years, the event has been moved to the rain-out date because of inclement weather, Turner said. Because organizers in Siloam Springs have to rent portable restrooms for both dates, participants asked last year if the sale could go ahead and be open both weekends, Turner explained.

In 2015, Siloam Springs' Pickin' Time on 59 included 65 sellers from Arkansas, Oklahoma and Missouri, and countless crowds of shoppers, Turner said. This year she expects even more people, both buyers and sellers, to attend the event. Organizers have moved the parking area across the airport driveway to make more space for parking, which has also opened a larger area for sellers to set up any size yard sale and to park their vehicles to unload their wares.

Families, non-profits and individuals are invited to clean out their garages, sheds, attics and storage to sell, Turner said. A wide range of items can be sold, including homemade or re-purposed furniture, plants, lawn mowers, art jewelry, cars, rocks, antiques, fruit and vegetables, pop bottles, picture frames, construction surplus, wind chimes, collectibles, lawn art, office furniture, field tractors, car parts, marbles, arrowheads, boats, sports equipment, horse tack and cowboy boots.

"Anything you think people will buy," Turner said. "It's a big yard sale."

The only thing that can't be sold at the event is live animals, including chickens, goats, sheep, dogs, cats birds or snakes, she said.

Sellers can get a spot at the sale for a $20 fee, which helps cover the cost of portable restrooms and signage. Applications and information about the sale are available in the lobby of the Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce office.
