The City of Siloam Springs installed a new warning siren to be used for a National Emergency or Natural Disaster. The siren was not used for fire alarms.

The warning siren was to be tested at 12 noon on Friday, April 28.

The first sound was the alert or attention signal which was a steady tone for three to five minutes. The test was followed by the immediate danger or emergency signal which was a wavering tone for three to five minutes.

Whenever the alert or attention signal was heard all citizens were urged to tune their radios to KUOA in Siloam. After the siren was heard KUOA would go on the air at any time, day or night, to broadcast any instructions or safety rules issued by local officials.

Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce board of directors accepted an offer to sell the historic downtown Connelly-Harrington House and relocate chamber offices.

The offer was the first one made for the building after it sat on the market for a year. The chamber estimated the deal with the prospective buyer would close in mid-May.

David Glass, chairman of the chamber board of directors, said the building received ample inquires from potential buyers, but just one offer.

"We're not overjoyed about leaving such a historical building," Glass said, "but a building of this age is very costly with maintenance and repairs."

Chamber President Wayne Mays said the total size of the building exceeded chamber needs, but the portion of the building that it could use was not adequate.
