Marie T. Bryant

Marie T. Bryant, 98, formerly of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at Apple Creek Health and Rehab in Centerton, Ark.

She was born on April 18, 1919, in Leach, Okla., to William D. Brown and Ellen Schook Brown. She married Ward E. Bryant. She was a Real Estate agent and loved sewing, her vegetable garden, taking walks and was passionate about antiquing. She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Siloam Springs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1974; one daughter, Carol Tatum; three brothers; and six sisters.

She is survived by one daughter, Gale Chenot of Bakersfield, Calif.; six grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held on Dec. 16, 2017, at Spavinaw-Strang Cemetery in Spavinaw, Okla., with Pastor Robert Polvado of Owasso, Okla., officiating.

A memorial service was also held at the First Assembly of God in Siloam Springs on Dec. 16.

Howard Eugene Drake Jr.

Howard Eugene Drake Jr., 75, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Dec. 14, 2017, in his home.

He was born Feb. 22, 1942, in Wichita, Kan., to Howard Eugene Joseph Drake Sr. and Lila Ruth Murphy. He married Cathy Sue Macoubrie on June 26, 2006. He was a major for the Benton County Sheriff Department and was a member of East Kenwood Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Vela; and a grandson, Bry Hulsey.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Tia Wilson of Siloam Springs; a son, Matt Drake of Siloam Springs; stepdaughters, Shannon Schmitt and husband Bill of Cameron, Mo., and Lisa Chartier and husband Patrick of Nardin, Okla.; stepson, William June and wife Sara of Kansas City, Kan.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister Georgetta Drake of Wichita, Kan.; and a half brother, Art Scott of Wichita.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at Wasson Memorial Chapel in Siloam Springs. Burial will follow at Falling Springs Cemetery, near Decatur, Ark.

Carolyn Sue Newton

Carolyn Sue Newton, 79, of Gentry, Ark., died Dec. 14, 2017, at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital in Siloam Springs, Ark.

She was born on Oct. 4, 1938, in De Bastrop Township, Ark., to Andrew Compton and Lucille Whittington-Compton. She married Harold Newton in Miami, Okla. on Aug. 19, 1977. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, being artistic, especially when it came to refinishing wood, singing and going to antique shops. She volunteered at the Total Life Community Center for many years and would cut hair at local nursing homes.

She was preceded in death by a son, Joe Ott; a sister, Patricia Ott; and a grandchild, Latonya Grover.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Deborah Melton and husband Almus of Bella Vista, Ark., Cheryl Holm and husband Gerald of Gentry, Ark., and Crystal Reiter of Jay, Okla.; four sisters, Nancy Brumbaugh of Jay, Betty Miosi of Burleson, Texas, Kathyleen Keaton of Jay and Joy Stephenson of Surprise, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Dec. 15, 2017 at Backstrom-Pyeatte Chapel in Siloam Springs with with Pastor Jonathan Belew and Pastor Sam Whatley officiating. Burial was at Butler Creek Cemetery in Sulpher Springs, Ark.
