Daddy-Daughter Dance

Siloam Springs Parks and Recreation will host its annual Daddy-Daughter Dance on Feb. 10-11 at the Siloam Springs Community Building, located at 110 North Mount Olive.

There are two dances for girls in fourth grade-and-younger -- Friday, Feb. 10, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 11, from 3 to 5 p.m.

The dance for girls in fifth-grade and older is Saturday, Feb. 11, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Cost is $20 for one dad and up to two daughters, with $5 for each additional daughter.

Tickets are available for purchase at the Parks and Recreation office located at 120 South Mt. Olive Street through 5 p.m. on Feb. 10. Participants are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. There will not be ticket sales at the door.

Writers Guild to meet Feb. 13

The Siloam Springs Writers Guild will meet on Monday evening, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 2000 W. Dawn Hill Road, west entrance. Rosemary Matthews will present a lesson on "How to Write Poetry." February assignments are: Prose -- Presidential Stories; Poetry -- a Love Sonnet of 14 lines. The Writers welcome all interested poets and writers of prose to attend. Coffee and cookies will be served.

Remembering WWII

Do you have memories of the World War II era? The day Pearl Harbor was attacked, rationing on the home front, VE or VJ day? Do you have letters, photos, mementos or other items from the WWII era? Legislators to speak

Three regional legislators will visit Siloam Springs in person during the 2017 session of the Arkansas General Assembly to communicate with and listen to citizens.

State Representatives Robin Lundstrum and Dan Douglas and State Senator Jim Hendren will discuss current legislation and citizens' concerns in one-hour sessions on three upcoming Saturdays, Jan. 28, Feb. 25 and March 25. The local gatherings will be held downtown from 11 a.m. to noon in the Arvest Bank Community Room downtown. The lawmakers will hold similar meetings beforehand in Bentonville and Rogers on the same days, as well as other scheduled days. No reservations are required, and citizens are welcome. There will be no charge and no refreshments will be served.

Volunteer needed

The Senior Activity and Wellness Center is in need of a volunteer to deliver meals every Wednesday. The route starts at 10:45 a.m. and takes about an hour-and-a-half to complete. The route can be shared with a friend or group. Call 479-524-5735 for details.

Siloam Springs Toastmasters Club

The Siloam Springs Toastmasters Club meets each Thursday of every month at DaySpring Corporate Offices from 12 to 1 p.m. Guests are welcome. The Toastmasters program offers many benefits that help people in all walks of life. As a result of participating in Toastmasters, members:

• Increase self-confidence

• Become a better speaker

• Become a better leader

• Communicate more effectively

Some companies reimburse their employee for membership dues and give hourly credit toward employee training. The club welcomes any local company interested in hosting a demo meeting to contact the club.

Senior exercise options

The Walton Lifetime Health Complex on the campus of John Brown University is a participating facility for both SilverSneakers and Silver&Fit programs. These programs are designed for senior Medicare/Medicaid eligible members and offer a unique blend of physical activity for all. Classes are offered five days a week and are taught by certified instructors. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. There also is a class that meets in the indoor pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday called "Splash." If eligible, a SilverSneakers or Silver&Fit membership could be covered by insurance at no charge or for a maximum of $25 a year. Fundraiser breakfast/band

The Siloam Springs Senior Activity and Wellness Center will host a weekly fundraiser breakfast from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. every Friday at the center, located at 750 Heritage Court. The fundraiser is open to all ages. The center will also host the OK Country Band at 1 p.m. the first Thursday of every month. The performance is free and open to anyone.

Manna Center Thrift Store

The Manna Center Thrift Store is now accepting credit and debit cards for purchases of $10 or more to make it easier for customers to shop. The store is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Customers can like the thrift store on Facebook or stop by and see what the dollar item is for the week. Anything over a month old is half price. The Manna Center is located at 670 Heritage Court, behind the Senior Activity and Wellness Center on Tulsa Street.

Friends of the Library Bookstore

The Friends of the Library Bookstore -- located in the new Siloam Springs Public Library -- features a large selection of used paperback and hardback books, CDs and DVDs at very low prices, most ranging from 50 cents to $3. All proceeds will be used to benefit the children's summer reading program and other library needs. The bookstore depends on donations -- especially of recent publications in good condition. Friends of the Library also desires new members who would like to further its mission through payment of dues, volunteering, or fund-raising. Tailwaggers seeking volunteers and donations

Tailwaggers is seeking volunteers to walk dogs and socialize cats at the city animal shelter. They are also in need of donations of chewies, rawhides, cat toys and dog harnesses for the animal shelter. Donations can be dropped off at the animal shelter located at 1300 East Ashley St. Call 238-3612 for more information.

Yoga classes

Bridges to Wellness and the Siloam Springs Parks and Recreation Department are sponsoring Yoga classes. Classes will be 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday nights at the Moss House located at 311 S. Mt. Olive St. The cost for classes is $4.

Coffee with the Commander

American Legion Post 29 in Siloam Springs announces a re-start of 'Coffee with the Commander.' This program is designed to familiarize local veterans with the programs of The American Legion and the activities of the local Post. Its members also want to learn if any of its programs need refinement by receiving input from nonmembers of the Post.

The informal meeting will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. each Saturday in the basement of the Community Building. Anyone who has "put the Uniform on" and served on active duty is invited. All subjects are open for discussion except politics and religion.

To the local veterans, "We speak your language."

CrossTraining

CrossTraining is held at 3DPT from 5:30 a.m. to 6:45 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The group shares in scripture, prays and then has a 45- to 60-minute workout. Kansas Public Library

The Kansas Public Library has lots of activities to enjoy. The library has a new "Freegal Music Service" that offers over 10,000 music labels from 65 countries. A library patron in good standing may download three songs a week for free from https://eodls.freegalmusic.com. Refreshments will be provided. Wheelchair ramp assistance

Kind at Heart Ministries is taking applications for wheelchair ramp and porch steps assistance. The service is free.
