The Siloam Springs Herald-Leader won second place in the general excellence category for larger weekly newspapers in the Arkansas Press Association's 2017 Better Newspaper Editorial Contest.

The award was announced at the Arkansas Press Association's annual convention, which was held at the Doubletree Hotel in Little Rock on Saturday. Fifty newspapers from across the state, including 33 weekly papers and 17 daily papers, submitted 1,654 entries into the contest. The competition was judged by the Oklahoma Press Association.

The Herald-Leader won a total of 18 awards in the larger weekly category, including three first-place awards. General excellence is decided on a point system for each first, second and third place award.
