Siloam Springs picked to finish last in 6A-West

The Siloam Springs football team is picked to finish last in the 6A-West Conference in 2017 according to one state-wide publication.

The 25th annual Hooten's Arkansas Football magazine hit stores last month, and among its 432 pages are preseason previews on every high school and college football program in the state.

Siloam Springs, which went 1-9 in 2017, will begin the season ranked No. 14 in Class 6A according to the Hooten's staff, and the Panthers were picked by the 6A-West Conference coaches to finish eighth out of eight teams.

Greenwood (12-1), which finished Class 6A runner-up in 2016, is picked to win the conference, followed by El Dorado (6-6), Benton (8-5) and Texarkana (3-8). Defending Class 6A state champion Russellville (12-1) was picked fifth in the 6A-West, followed by Lake Hamilton (6-5), Sheridan (1-9) and Siloam Springs.

Siloam Springs did not have any selections this season to the Class 6A Super Team, however offensive lineman Isaac Knudson, defensive lineman Kameron Greenlee and linebacker Jacob Rowe were all listed as Unheralded Stars in Class 6A.

Hooten's high school favorites to win it all in 2017 are Har-Ber in Class 7A, Greenwood in Class 6A, Pulaski Academy in Class 5A, Warren in Class 4A, Prescott in Class 3A and Mount Ida in Class 2A.

In the college section, former Siloam Springs standouts Aric Sislo and Parker Hall were listed as projected starters for Hendrix College. Sislo and Hall are both 2016 SSHS graduates. Sislo is projected to start at defensive end, while Hall is projected to start at center.

Hooten's Arkansas Football retails for $16.99 and is on sale now statewide at numerous locations, including Flash Market, Harp's Food Stores, Walgreens and Walmart.

The 432-page book, features Arkansas Razorback quarterback Austin Allen on the cover. Hooten's Arkansas Football takes a look back at the past 25 years since Arkansas joined the SEC, and offers a "what if" scenario with the Hogs staying in the Southwest Conference.

Alabama is tabbed to win the SEC West, followed by LSU, Auburn, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Georgia is picked to win the SEC Eastern Division, followed by Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Missouri.

Arkansas State is ranked second in the Sun Belt and 63rd nationally. Appalachian State is picked to win the Sun Belt.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are Hooten's preseason No. 1 team, followed by Florida State, Southern Cal, Ohio State and Penn State.

Southern Arkansas is picked to win the Great American Conference, followed by Ouachita Baptist, Henderson State, Harding and SE Oklahoma State.

The book is published annually by Hooten Publishing Inc., of Benton.
