Library park to get second meeting

The landscape firm that has been placed in charge of the proposed improvements around the Siloam Springs Library is making good on their promise to gather public input on the project before construction phases begin.

CARBO, a landscape architecture firm based in Baton Rouge, La., is hosting a second public input meeting with the city of Siloam Springs on Thursday, June 22. The meeting will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the public meeting room in the library.

CARBO was chosen as the firm for the project, which is being referred to as "Medical Springs Park" until an official name is chosen, after a round of interviews against two other firms. The design phase of the project is covered by the Design Excellence grant from the Walton Family Foundation.

The meeting will seek to build off the findings of an earlier public input meeting, said Jeff Carbo, during the previous meeting in May.

During that meeting, the firm polled the assembled participants on a variety of design methods and materials. But the most valuable part of the meeting was a session where teams of four to six people drew up their own designs for the park, Carbo said.

That feedback will be taken into consideration, and CARBO representatives will seek to either confirm or debunk trends they have extrapolated from the responses.

A gallery with the feedback from the first meeting can be viewed on the city's website at http://www.siloamsprings.com/517/Library-Site-Park.

The Medical Springs Park project has the potential to include such amenities as a splash pad, an amphitheater, stalls for the farmers market, green space and more. The budget for the project is estimated to be between $2 million and $2.5 million.
