Kansas powerlifters headed to state

n The Comets’ junior-high teams were crowned state champions.

CLEVELAND, Okla. -- The Kansas (Okla.) powerlifting teams won the Class 2A Northeast Regional championship held Friday at Cleveland, Okla., High School.

Several Comets won individual awards at the meet, and 14 qualified for the high school state powerlifting meet, which will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday in Prague, Okla.

Daris Glass took first place overall in the 145-pound class with a total of 1,105 pounds. Glass also earned outstanding squat and outstanding lightweight lifter.

Jarren Yeager took first place in the 198-pound class with 1,370 pounds. He earned outstanding bench and outstanding heavyweight lifter. Jamall Potter was fifth place in the 198-pound class at 1,145 pounds.

Ethan Vaughan took fifth-place in the 168-pound class with 1,020 pounds.

Yeng Lee was second in the 220-pound division at 1,235 pounds, while Zack Lamont took fourth place at 242-pound class with a total of 1,275 pounds.

Hayden Evans, in the 275-pound class, was fourth place at 1,075 pounds, while Dustin Campbell was fifth in the heavyweight at 1,060 pounds.

The lifters who qualifed for the state meet are Daris Glass, Jake Morgan (145 pounds); Ethan Vaughan, Jager Pifer (168 pounds); Jarren Yeager, Jamall Potter, Jacob Jones (198 pounds); Yeng Lee, Jerry Cochran (220 pounds); Zack Lamont (242 pounds); Hayden Evans (275 pounds) and heavyweights Dustin Campbell, Kade Moore and Tim Olinghouse.

Junior high state champions

The Kansas seventh-, eighth-, and ninth-graders all finished as junior high state champions, earning 22 medals total held Thursday at Cleveland.

Seventh-grade

The seventh-graders earned first place with 233 points.

At 105 pounds, Shelby Spence was second place, while Tharrick Cowett was fourth place.

Jeremy Verrette placed second at 114 pounds, while Colt Asher was fourth.

Jeremiah Harmon had a total of 590 pounds in the 157-pound division and finished first.

Dillon Perdue totaled 745 pounds in the 168-pound diviison and took first place.

Kolby Vaughn took first place in the 181-pound division with 780 total, while Kenley Verbeck was second in the 198-pound division.

Jace Harlin took first place in the heavyweight division with 695 pounds, while Joel Sands was fourth place. Vaughan and Perdue won the outstanding squat and bench, respectively.

Eighth-graders

The eighth-grade Comets scored 152 points to take first place.

Drew Patterson was third in the 123-pound division, while Daegon Raimer was third at 132 pounds.

B.J. Lee placed second at 145 pounds, while Easton Wiggins was fifth.

William Hall was first place at 157 pounds with 735 pounds total, while Caleb Reding was third and Bryant Shaver fifth.

Dayton Down was fourth at 181 pounds, while Lonnie Berridge placed fourth in the heavyweight division.

Ninth-graders

The ninth-grade Comets placed first with 251 pounds.

Mason Carnes was first at the 114-pound division with 510 pounds, while Jake Morgan took first place at 145-pound mark with a total of 850.

Bobby Honaker was first at 157 pounds with a total of 815, while Trae Foster was third overall.

Jager Pifer lifted a total of 955 pounds for first place in the 168-pound division, while William Houston was second.

Jacob Jones totaled 1,005 pounds for first place in the 198-pound division, while Nolen Perdue was third.

Tim Olinghouse was first place in the heavyweight division with a total of 1,020 pounds, while Zack Daniels took third place.

Jager Pifer earned outstanding lifter honors, while Jacob Jones was outstanding squad and Jake Morgan outstanding dead lift.
