Woman dies in fire

A woman died Sunday after bystanders pulled her from a burning home in Siloam Springs.

Siloam Springs firefighters went at 12:34 p.m. Sunday to 1769 E. Kenwood St., according to a news release from the city of Siloam Springs. Fire crews arrived in less than five minutes and found flames coming out of a window of the single-story home.

One person was being removed from the home by bystanders as firefighters arrived. Firefighters found two dead animals but no other people in the home, according to the release. Several bystanders were applying water to the building with hoses, according to the release.

The woman, who wasn't named, was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. She then was flown to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo., but was pronounced dead a short time later, according to the release.

An investigation into the fire is ongoing and the results will be released as soon as they are available. Sixteen firefighters and seven Fire/EMS vehicles responded to the incident.

As of presstime Tuesday afternoon the fire department had not released the victim's name.
