Lady Panthers win benefit game at Huntsville

n The Siloam Springs boys were defeated by the Eagles.

HUNTSVILLE -- The Siloam Springs girls basketball team got stronger as the game went longer in a 55-40 win over Huntsville this past Saturday in an Arkansas Activities Association benefit game at Charles Berry Gymnasium.

The Lady Panthers trailed 12-11 after the first quarter and saw sophomore Shelby Johnson go out with an ankle injury. But the Lady Panthers settled in and outscored Huntsville 17-9 in the second quarter and took a 28-21 lead at halftime.

Siloam Springs led 41-32 at the end of the third quarter and outscored Huntsville 14-8 in the fourth quarter.

Senior guard Morgan Vaughn led a balanced scoring effort with 15 points, while junior Chloe Price had 10. Junior Hailey Dorsey had nine, senior Hadlee Hollenback eight, sophomore Jael Harried six, senior Brooklyn Buckminster four, senior Brianna Ponticello two and Johnson one.

Head coach Tim Rippy said he expected Johnson to recover from the injury, but probably not in time for the Lady Panthers' season opener at Rogers Heritage on Tuesday.

Boys

Huntsville 55, Siloam Springs 41

Huntsville shot out to an early 22-12 lead after the first quarter and held off the Panthers in the boys game.

The Panthers pulled within 28-22 at halftime after outscoring Huntsville 10-6 in the second quarter.

The Eagles took a 39-31 lead into the fourth quarter, but not until after junior Murphy Perkins hit a 92-foot heave cross court for a 3-pointer.

Senior guard Diego Flores hit 5 of 5 from behind the 3-point arch and led Siloam Springs with 15 points. Junior guard Karson Clement added eight points, while Perkins and senior forward Spencer Lashley each scored six, junior Jacob Wakefield four and sophomore Jordan Stewart two.

Up next

The Panthers and Lady Panthers played at Rogers Heritage on Tuesday in their season-openers. Results were not available at presstime.

Both Siloam Springs teams are scheduled to play their first home games of the season Friday against Mountain Home. The girls game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game around 7:30 p.m.
