Three Siloam Springs residents have registered to run for an empty seat on the Board of Directors, City Clerk Renea Ellis said Thursday. The seat was the at-large position five on the city board, which isn't limited to a specific ward.
The candidates for the seat are Reid Carroll, Jerry Cavness and Karl Mounger. Carroll is the former owner of Barnett's Dairyette, Cavness previously served on the board when a seat was vacated last year, and Mounger is the current chairman of Siloam Springs' Planning and Zoning Commission/Board of Adjustments.
Voting for the special election will begin with an early voting period from Dec. 5-8 and Dec. 11. Voters can cast ballots on those dates at the County Clerk's office on Lincoln Street.
On election day, Dec. 12, registered voters can vote at the American Legion Community Building in Siloam Springs, Lakeview Baptist Church in Cave Springs, or the Rogers and Bentonville Court Clerks' offices.
If none of the candidates receive 50 percent of the vote, a run-off election will be held on Jan. 9, 2018.
The filing deadline for candidacy for the position ended on Thursday at noon. Candidates submitted a form with 50 signatures from registered voters and a $10 filing fee. Candidates were required to have resided in the city for six months, be a registered voter and be at least 21 years of age.
