Eight different players scored and the John Brown University women's soccer team extended its winning streak at home to 26 as the Golden Eagles posted six second-half goals in an 8-0 win over Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The eight goals were the seventh-most in program history while John Brown (9-2-0, 3-0-0 Sooner Athletic) poured on with 42 shots, which also landed at seventh-most in a single match in program history.
Freshman Natalie Aycock's first-career goal also proved to be her first collegiate game-winner when she picked up a loose ball at the top of the box and fired it off a defender in the 36th minute of play.
Freshman Paige Kula continued the first-half scoring when her left-footed boot from the right side of the box floated past Baptist keeper Erin Moon just 2:13 later.
Despite unleashing 21 shot attempts in the first half, the Golden Eagles posted just a pair on the board. The second half also provided 21 shot attempts, but this time six goals found the back of the net.
In the 50th minute, sophomore Katherine Haar's rip from the top of the box caught all crossbar and bounced straight down. The linesman and center official quickly conferred and ruled the shot had crossed the goal line for her third of the season.
Senior Sara Frey and junior Anne Metz then scored in the 55th and 57th minutes, respectively, both assisted by freshman Sienna Nealon via cross from the right flank. Frey's second of the season was one-touched to the top shelf while Metz used her head to at the back post to notch her first of the season.
Junior Anna Brown, sophomore Hannah Sweaney and senior Hannah Poor each contributed goals over the final 22 minutes of play. Sophomore Kristen Howell and Kula picked up primary helpers.
The freshman tandem of Maggie Allen and Caitlyn Logan each patrolled the goal for 45 minutes apiece, despite not needing to register a save. Allen was credited with the win, moving her career record to 3-0-0, while the Golden Eagles recorded their third clean sheet of the season.
JBU returned to action on Saturday against Mid-America Christian (Okla.) as part of the Homecoming 2017 festivities. Results were not available at presstime. JBU returns to the field next Saturday at 4 p.m. against Bacone (Okla.).
